Our History

Edmonton Royal Purple #22

The Edmonton Royal Purple Lodge has been an integral part of communities across Edmonton for the past 85 years. The Royal Purple is a charitable, non- profit, National Organization. It addresses and identifies the needs of the community and supports educational, social programs and sports for children.

Edmonton Royal Purple were given their charter and instituted on February 17, 1927. Lady R. Robb was installed as the First Honoured Royal Lady (President) of the Lodge. In 1928 Honoured Royal Lady (President) Mrs. George Ware and two other ladies attended Supreme (National) Convention held in Kamloops, BC.

In 1933 the first Joint Installation of Edmonton Royal Purple #22 and Elks Lodge #11 was held. The lodges have hosted National Conventions in 1948, 1976 and most recently in 2008.

In May 2011, Edmonton Elks and Royal Purple Lodges of the North Central Zone hosted the 28th

Annual Walk for Children and raised in excess of $35,000.00. We have raised and donated well over $580,000.00 over the years, thanks to our volunteers. We also hosted the Elks & Royal Purple National Dart Championships 2001 which was a great success.

Together with our brother and sister Elks, we work hard to help children who are less fortunate, especially through The Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children. Along with our Annual Fall Supper, Fall Fling, Pansy Gala, Sporting Events, Catering, Bingos, Casinos, Bake Sales, etc., we are also able to support facilities like Camp He Ho Ha, The Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research, School for the Deaf, The Inner-City School Snack Program, Drug Awareness and many others.

It is very rewarding to see the smiles on the faces of children and to see the difference we have made in their lives.

With the help of all our members, brother and sister Elks, and new members, our great work will continue on for many years to come.

Working to help the children.
